Jewellery Care Guide

Layla Kaisi Collection hand-crafted jewellery are made with high-quality precious materials.
Each piece is made by hand with attention given to every detail, and if you treat it nicely,
our jewellery can last a lifetime.
Special care should be taken when wearing Layla Kaisi Collection fine jewellery,
however, with normal everyday wear, scratches and knocks are to be expected over the lifetime of the piece.

It's no secret that jewellery is more than just an accessory; it's a treasure trove of memories, a testament of personal style, a story weaved in precious metals and gemstones and often, a cherished heirloom with an irreplaceable sentimental value. But without proper care, this story can fade, much like the sparkle of a neglected diamond. Your precious jewellery deserves the same attention and care you put into curating your style.

Jewellery Care Instructions

Please take note of the following jewellery care guidelines for handling your jewellery pieces so you may be able to preserve their original quality and enjoy them for many years to come.

“A brand of transparency and identity, our designs are fragments of life that invite you to explore a personal narrative you can physically wear.”

 - Layla Kaisi

General Care:

Getting Dressed

When getting ready to go out, place your jewellery on last to avoid snagging your favourite delicate ensemble, such as any wool or silk materials with the jewellery. This will ensure you do not damage your clothing and avoids any accidental pulling of the precious stone settings.

Showering and Swimming

Remove all rings, earrings, and necklaces when you are showering, bathing, or swimming. This will ensure you do not lose any pieces if they come loose from your hands or ears and fall down the drain or sink. Furthermore, chlorine and salts are corrosive to some precious stones and metals, so are best avoided to keep the quality of the pieces.

Sleeping

Remove your jewellery when you are sleeping to make sure no part of the designs are damaged in the movement overnight. The delicate settings and layouts of each piece may become crushed if laid upon whilst sleeping.

Cosmetics

Always apply soaps, cosmetics, lotions and perfumes before you wear your jewellery. The chemicals and oils in these products may otherwise get into the setting of the designs and coat the precious stones, which will dull the look of the jewellery piece without proper cleaning.

Exercising

Special care should be given to your jewellery when exercising. Lifting weights, rapid movement, and contact sports are all risks to the longevity of your designs. Remove all jewellery pieces prior to physical exercise to ensure the ring bands are not scratched, or bent and necklaces/earrings do not get snagged and broken.

Gardening and Cleaning

Always remove your jewellery when cleaning or gardening. Chemicals and dirt can easily get into the setting of the designs, causing a build-up under the stones, dulling the jewellery. Exposure to corrosive chemicals will also erode metals and some softer stones.

Hands-on Activities

When lifting heavy weights, pushing heavy doors, or any activity with strong hand contact, your rings should be removed to avoid bending of the band and unduly damage.

Jewellery Cleaning & Care Tips

Cleaning Your Jewellery at Home

When removing jewellery, wipe each piece gently with a soft microfibre or cotton cloth to remove any dirt/build-up of oils on the surface. Paper and rougher materials may cause micro-scratches on the surface of the piece so are best avoided. To clean your jewellery more thoroughly and remove dirt from under the settings, we recommend you first soak the pieces in a diluted solution of dishwashing liquid and warm water for five minutes.Select a soft brush (a soft toothbrush is ideal) to gently scrub and remove any dirt/buildup stuck in the setting, then rinse thoroughly in clean, warm water. Dry your jewellery completely using a soft, lint-free cloth.

Cleaning Diamonds

Follow the instructions above on how to clean your jewellery, with special attention given to the diamond surface to bring out its brilliance again. Diamond pieces can be cleaned using an ultrasonic jewellery cleaner as well. Always check the setting of your diamond jewellery to ensure they are still secure. Have your piece professionally inspected every 12 months to make sure the piece is viable and ready for continued everyday wear.

Cleaning Gemstones

Some gemstones are more delicate and softer than others therefore, special care should be given to avoid knocking them and exposing to ultrasonic jewellery cleaners as this may ruin the piece. Gently wash your gemstone jewellery in a solution of lukewarm water and mild dishwashing liquid as above, and polish with a soft cloth. Always check the setting of your gemstone jewellery to ensure they are still secure. Have your piece professionally inspected every 12 months to make sure the piece is viable and ready for continued everyday wear.

Cleaning Gold

Layla Kaisi Collection uses 14ct or 18ct yellow and rose gold. At this purity, the metal is relatively strong for everyday wear. However, as gold is still a softer metal, special care is still recommended to avoid damage. Follow the instructions above to ensure longevity, and bring your jewellery piece into the LKC studio every 12 months for inspection to assess the piece and make sure it is secure and ready for continued use. Wipe each piece gently with a soft microfibre or cotton cloth to remove any dirt/build-up of oils on the surface. Paper and rougher materials may cause micro-scratches on the surface of the piece so are best avoided.

Cleaning White Gold

Layla Kaisi Collection uses 14ct or 18ct white gold. White gold is made up of yellow gold mixed with other metals such as palladium and platinum. As gold is naturally a yellow colour, a pure white mirror-like finish cannot be achieved unless the piece is electroplated in a rhodium-plated finish. Rhodium adheres is extremely hard wearing and creates a high-shine finish on pieces, however it wears away over time. It is highly recommended you bring your white gold jewellery into the LKC studio every 12 months for a re-rhodium plating to ensure it looks as perfect as the day you received it.

Cleaning Platinum

Layla Kaisi Collection uses platinum. Unlike other metals, platinum is relatively hard-wearing and will not fade, tarnish or turn colour; however, it may take on a distinctive patina with age.

Cleaning Sterling Silver

Sterling Silver is known for its versatility and classic elegance. However, it can tarnish if not cared for properly. To prevent this, store your sterling silver jewellery in a cool, dry place, preferably in anti-tarnish pouches or lined jewellery boxes. When cleaning, use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently polish the silver, removing any tarnish or dirt. If needed, a mild silver cleaner can be used sparingly. Avoid exposing your silver jewellery pieces to harsh chemicals and humidity, as these can accelerate tarnishing.

Cleaning Pearls

Pearls exude sophistication and grace but require delicate care to preserve their lustrous beauty. Always wear your pearls last after applying makeup, perfume, and hairspray to prevent damage. When cleaning, use a soft, damp cloth to gently wipe the pearls, as they can easily scratch. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners and harsh chemicals, which can damage the pearl's nacre. Store your pearls separately in a soft pouch or lined compartment to avoid contact with other jewellery.

Cleaning Sapphires

Sapphires are prized for their stunning hues and durability, making them a popular choice for jewellery. To keep your sapphires looking their best, clean them regularly with a soft brush, warm water, and mild soap. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid exposing your sapphire jewellery to harsh chemicals or extreme heat, as these can cause damage. Store your sapphires separately in a soft pouch or lined compartment to prevent scratches.

Cleaning Opals

Opals are captivating gemstones known for their play of colours and unique patterns. To protect your opals, avoid exposing them to extreme temperature changes, which can cause cracks. When cleaning, use a soft, damp cloth and avoid soaking or using ultrasonic cleaners, as these can damage the stone. Store your opal jewellery separately in a soft pouch or lined compartment to prevent contact with other pieces that may cause scratches.

Jewellery Storage Tips

To maintain the appearance of your jewellery, we recommend you to store your jewellery separately in their protective boxes that they came in at all times when not in use. This help to avoid natural scratching/ tarnishing that would occur when left with other jewellery/items. We hope that with these instructions, you feel confident and prepared to care for your Layla Kaisi Collection hand-crafted jewellery so that you may enjoy each unique piece for many years to come.
